Eden Hazard was a major absentee as Real Madrid came from behind to beat hosts Sevilla 3-2 in the league thereby moving closer to winning the Spanish La Liga title this season and a second Spanish La Liga title in three years.
Belgian international Eden Hazard missed the trip to play Sevilla due to injury. As a matter of fact, the former Chelsea and Lille player has been missing from the Real Madrid squad since he underwent surgery to remove a metal plate in his right ankle towards the end of last month. The expectation is that the Belgian national team skipper will return to action before the end of the season.
Without Eden Hazard, Real Madrid have been able to reach the Champions League semifinals for the second successive season in addition to edging closer to another La Liga title. Hazard didn’t feature in any of the two legs against former club Chelsea because of injury. He has missed all the five Real Madrid games since club football resumed at the start of this month.
Real Madrid were able to make it three wins in a row in the league in the absence of Hazard thanks to the 3-2 comeback victory over Sevilla having trailed by two goals at the end of the first half. Sevilla took the lead through Croatian international star Ivan Rakitic on 21 minutes before former Tottenham Hotspur player Erik Lamela doubled the advantage for the former Europa League holders four minutes later. Rodrygo Goes, substitute Nacho and Karim Benzema all found the back of the net for Real Madrid in the second half as the La Liga leaders sealed victory to move a step closer to the league title. As things stand, Real Madrid need ten more points from their remaining six games to win the La Liga title this season.
